It varies from state to state. In most states, a felony conviction does not expressly preclude one from becoming an attorney, however, it is a factor taken into consideration during the moral fitness evaluation that precedes the bar exam. So while there might not be a rule that says "no attorney will have a felony conviction" the state can keep you from taking the bar exam if they believe the felony conviction shows that the person attempting to take the bar exam lacks the moral fitness required to become a lawyer. It is reviewed on a case-by-case basis and any denial to sit for the bar can be addressed by an appeal. So, the short answer is, yes, someone with a felony conviction can indeed... theoretically, become an attorney. The likelihood of it happening is yet another story.

According to the BAR association, a person who has committed a misdemeanor can still become a lawyer. However, a person who has committed a felony and has already served out his sentence may not gain an attorney's license.

Rather than research all 50 states for this information, just make a quick phone call to your local or state Bar Association.

Theoretically, yes. Realistically, the chances of the Bar Association admitting you to practice is slim to none.

Unless they were tried as adults because of the gravity of their offense, if they maintain a clean record as adults after their juvenile record is sealed, they probably can.

Depends on the state and the offense. Some states prohibit all felons from being admitted to the bar. Some only prohibit persons convicted of crimes of moral turpitude.
