Best Answer

No. The moon is always the smaller body in such a system. The smaller object will always be the one doing the orbiting.

What is smaller a planet or a moon?

Size is not the differentiation of whether something is a planet or moon. The difference is what ir orbits. A planet orbits a star, and only a star. A moon orbits a planet. A moon is always smaller than the planet it belongs to, but some large moons are bigger than small planets. Ganymede and Titan are both larger than the planet Mercury, but are still much smaller than than planets they orbit, Jupiter and Saturn.

Is a moon larger than a planet?

No. The moon orbits the planet which means the planet is larger than the moon.

Does it matter how big moons are?

Moons do not have to be any size but if the moon is bigger than the planet that it orbits, then the moon becomes the planet because it has more gravitational force.

Does the moon count as a planet?

No. A planet is an object that orbits a star such as the sun. Since the moon orbits the planet Earth rather than the sun it is considered a moon, also called a natural satellite.

Is mercury a moon of any planet?

No. Mercury orbits the sun, so it is a planet rather than a moon.

What is the difference between a moon and a planet?

a planet is much larger than a moon. sometimes a planet can have many moons but a moon can only have 1 planet. the moon orbits the planet but the planet orbits a star (such as the sun) ect.

What is the moon a planet or something?

Is IO a planet?

No. Io is a moon as it orbits the planet Jupiter rather than the sun.

Which is the smallest comets or asteroids or planets or moons?

Any of them because there is no set size for any of them. All of them are classified by different things and none of them are size. A moon orbits a planet, a planet orbits a star in a slightly elliptical orbit, a comet orbits a star in a highly elliptical orbit, and an asteroid is a planet or moon (any celestial object really) that is out of orbit and is flying through the universe a high speeds. For instance, a moon can be bigger than a planet.

How can you tell something is a planet and not a moon?

A planet is in direct orbit around a central star, while a moon is in orbit around a large body (a planet) rather than in a direct orbit around a star. The moon orbits the planet, while the planet orbits the sun.
