Because the effects of HIV are not immediate. The the HIV test works is if they detect that you have less than 200 CD4+ cells per a mililiter of blood, and sometimes the decline of that cell isn't immediately to 200/ml so you generally should take the test a second time to be sure your CD4+ count doesn't go below 200/ml

∙ 12y agothat is not possible, unless first test negative then second positive. The reason being: if one contracts HIV it takes a certain period of time (window period) for its presence to be detected. So, when one has tested positive to HIV, it remains that way as there is no cure.
