∙ 11y agoProbably because army officers are allowed when off duty, so police officers should be able to as well.
Added: As long as they don't do it in uniform, of course they can. They don't lose their civil rights simply because of their occupation. INTERESTINGLY - police officers are held to an even higher standard than the general public, because not only can they face the penalty of law if arrested for improper actions while intoxicated, most law enforcement agencies will discipline them or terminate their employment for "conduct unbecoming" as well.

∙ 13y agoA police officer is technically on-duty 24/7, even when they're not on the clock. When they're on the clock, they wouldn't be permitted to drink, save perhaps for special functions, such as a police ball, etc.

∙ 12y agoIt would not be the bar's place to question it. If an officer tries to buy a drink while on duty, ultimately it is he himself who will be in trouble, there is nothing anyone could do to the bar because they did nothing illegal.
