NO, once it is yellow...you CANNOT change it to white. * Yellow gold is made by mixing pure gold with alloys such as copper and zinc. * Rose or pink gold is made using a mix of pure gold with alloy metals including copper. The copper provides the rose-reddish color. * White gold is an alloy of gold and some white metals such as nickel and palladium. The only way you can change the color of your ring is to have it plated. This method is not permanent as the coating will wear off through normal wear and tear. However, almost all white gold rings today are rhodium plated and there is no reason you cannot rhodium plate a yellow gold ring. The difference is that the contrast will be much greater as the plating starts to wear, so more frequent replating will be necessary. In the case of jewelry that receives little wear, like a pin or a broach, rhodium plating may last indefinitely. Sure, yellow gold could be turn in white color and we have yellow gold rings and white gold rings. It is common for jeweler to make a 18k white gold ring by yellow gold. He will add 25% other metals, like nickle which would make the yellow color turn into white. That comes a 18k white gold ring.

Yes, white gold can be converted to yellow gold through a process called re-plating. This involves stripping off the existing rhodium plating on white gold to reveal the yellow gold underneath. However, this process may need to be repeated over time as the white gold's natural color may eventually show through.

Well, you can have it electroplated in yellow gold and vice a versa.

All gold is naturally yellow. In order to make white gold, they put a different alloy in it, however it still will take on a faint yellow look to it before polishing. What jewelers do (I am a jeweler) is Rhodium plate the ring to make it bright white again. The inside of your ring will turn yellower quicker because the acids in your skin are causing the rhodium to wear faster. Whenever you notice the outside getting duller or yellower, go to where you bought the ring (if they have an in house jeweler) and they should be able to redo it no problem. Other jewelry stores can do it for you as well, but expect a charge.

They are alloys of gold with different metal(s). However, while white gold is a different alloy, most whitel gold today is rhodium plated, and the rhodium is what you see when you think of white gold. The only deterrent to rhodium plating the yellow gold watch is that the rhodium eventually wears off, and it is much more obvious when the base metal is yellow gold than white gold, so replating would be required more often. If the watch will not receive a lot of wear, though, the rhodium plating could last indefinitely.

white gold is shinier. Not really. There is no such thing as white gold. White gold is yellow gold with other metals in it to appear white. When you see it in the stores it usually has a rhodium plating on it. Rhodium is a white metal with a really high shine. Yellow gold when new is very shiny also.

Yes. This is because the nickel combined with gold to make white gold. All pure gold is yellow, and white gold is made by alloying the gold with whitening agents such as nickel or silver.
