Every state has different labor laws but generally no, most employers require you to be 100% fit(no restrictions) before they will allow you to return to work.

EXCEPT, those larger employer subject to ADA must not require that you be 100% fit - but only able to perform the ESSENTIAL functions of your job with or without reasonable accommodation.

My dad was on temporary disability and he worked. If you are on disability, though, you may not be able to work much at all, like my father. My aunt, however, is on permanent disability and cannot physically do any jobs. She has tried and they never threatened or told her she would lose her disability if had found a job.
