Hemophilia normally refers to a genetic disorder that can be either inherited or the result of a spontaneous mutation. Since the genetic form of hemophilia is linked to a mutation on the X chromosome, males typically show the full symptoms while females with the mutation typically have somewhat mitigated symptoms or none at all.

Yes, but it is more likely that a male will have Hemophilia. This is because females have XX chromosomes, meaning if one X is infected they have another one to block out the sick one. Males, on the other hand, are XY chromosomes. Meaning if their X has hemophilia, they are stuck with it. Females are also known as "carriers".

A woman is only a carrier of hemophilia if one of her parents is a carrier as well or has the disorder. Now that's unless there's a genetic mutation involved...

Yes but it is very unlikely. In order for this to occur, a male with the disease must produce offspring with a female carrier of the same type of haemophilia (A or B).

EXAMPLE: If the female is a heterozygous carrier with a deleterious mutation in the same gene, then 50% of her female offspring (when mating with the male haemophiliac) will have the disease. 50% of her male offspring will also have the disease.

NB: the male MUST have the disease in order to produce haemophiliac females.

No genetically normal female can have classic Haemophilia, or Factor V111 deficiency. If a female has it, the Dr will probably suggest genetic testing. Classic Haemophilia is carried by and passed on through females, and the men get the illness itself.
