No it will effect the thumb side of your hand up to half of your ring finger. If you are finding tingling numbness or pain in the shoulder and arm you may have to look for problems in the vertebrae.

No, it typically does not...it can go up into the forearm area. If the shoulder is hurting they need to rule-out some kind of shoulder pathology ( rotator cuff tear) or even neck problems....pinched nerve, bone spurs, Arthritis of neck vertebrae etc..these things are more common to give shoulder pain

The relationship between carpal tunnel injury and a shoulder injury may be may be direct, indirect, or none.

Carpal tunnel acute injuries or longer term syndrome can be related to other inflammatory overuse injuries and pain syndromes.

The effect can be direct. One injury can affect another because of how we may guard an injury and then through overuse injure a different joint to compensate.

The effect can be indirect. You may be injured in more than one nearby joint when both areas are chronically overused while working on computers, or at other repetitive tasks.

But The two injuries can be unrelated. You could develop carpal tunnel learning guitar, then get hit in your shoulder by a thrown bat at a kid's Baseball game. Of course, in that case, how you forgot they were unrelated is the real mystery.

Treatments involve pursuit of better working posture and improved ergonomics in the work or play space.

Best medicine is none because you figured out how to not need it. Alternatively, try short term use of OTC inflammatory drugs if tolerated, and a checkup with the doctor and occupational safety officer or therapist if either condition persists.

Good luck!
