Human scabies mites cannot be passed to your pets. The scabies mites that cats and dogs get is different from the human mite. Scabies in pets is usually called mange, and cannot be passed to humans. If a mite goes from you to the cat, it will not live; the same if a cat or dog mite gets onto your body.

I have two cats, males, supposidly from the same litter. They are now over 10 years old. One began having balding and blood spots on the bathroom sink. The other began urinating everywhere and there was blood in the urine. I treated the urine problem with success. Now the are both overly thirsty. They both have severe balding, especially on their abdomen and hind legs. They appear to be tired but don't appear to be in pain.

No, you cannot get lice from cats, mainly because cats do not get lice. Cats get fleas, and fleas do not inhabit people's hair, only their skin.

**** Cats can't distribute louse to humans, or vice versa.

That answer up there is ridiculous. The kitten I just rescued is CRAWLING with patches of dryness and lice eggs and so forth.

Yes and no. Mange is two different animal diseases caused by mites. In humans, the mite-borne disease, the equivalent of sarcoptic mange in animals is called scabies. Demodectic mange is transmitted generally during nursing, and thus cannot be spread to humans. Most of the mites that causes mange in animals are different from the ones which cause scabies in humans, but sometimes the animal mites can infest humans. Veterinary workers occasionally contract scabies from their patients.

Yes IF it is Sarcoptic mange. I would determine if that is actually what your dog has (they need to do a skin scraping to determine) and if it is sarcoptic mange you can get it.

Can cats carry human lice?

no Pet's cant get lice. It depends on what your pet is - if it is a sheep, goat or bird than yes it can get lice. Human head lice cannot survive on pets. They need human blood to survive and live. Lice are extremely fragile in the environment (dehydrate VERY quickly) and cannot live longer than 24 hours without a human blood meal (they don't live on pets). Focusing on items worn in the last 24 hours, bedsheets, combs/brushes will cover your possible exposure from the environment. Experts believe lice transmission from inanimate objects to be less than 2%. So cover your bases but don't fine tooth comb the carpet!

Can you get head lice from cats?

Probably not, lice are very specialized and only inhabit one species of host. Most kinds of lice are found only on specific types of animal, and, in some cases, only to a particular part of the body; some animals are known to host up to fifteen different species, although one to three is typical for mammals, and two to six for birds.

Can lice go from your head to your crotch?

Head lice and pubic lice are two different species of lice, I don't know if it's impossible to spread it, it would however be very hard for the head lice or louse to survive

None of the 3 species of human lice (head, pubic, clothing) survive well on other species. Dogs, cats, and other mammalian species each have 1 species of lice that feed on them and these lice do not survives well on other mammals. Lice are very highly specialized for the one species of host they live on. Humans are the only mammalian species that carries more than 1 species of lice.

Can feline lice be transmitted to other cats via their owners clothes?

In theory, the answer is YES. Lice must live on a host (i.e. your cat), they do not live very long off of the host. It could be possible for a louse to be on your clothes from holding one cat and be immediately transferred to another cat. If one cat in a household has lice, all cats in that household should be treated for the lice to make sure that they are completely eliminated from the home. K. H., DVM
