First of all, the reason why you get chapped lips is because of weather and the the fact that your lips need constant moisture and care.
During dry, hot weather, the moisture in your lips tends to be absorbed or evaporated, and during cold, stormy days, the moisture in your lips also tends to either freeze or dry up. This causes a lack of moisture in your lips, which means they get dry and wrinkled.
Chapstick and other oils or creams simply create a coating like a wall to prevent the weather from accessing your lips and removing moisture. Usually thicker substances work better to create this "wall", so I wouldn't necessarily recommend chapstick as the most effective solution.

you should use a moisturizing lip balm that comes from natural ingredients like mentha you can get it at bath and body works if you dont have their store nearby look online

∙ 12y agoIt can, if you get a good type. Sometimes, it can make them worse. Vaseline is the best way to help it.
Be sure to toss the chapstick after you are over the cold sore--may reinfect you.

∙ 12y agoBoth work well but I prefer conditioning treatments personally. I guess that would be closer to lip balm. This DCT is really great and gives lips a nice shine.
