One of the important findings of the last two decades was that there are critical periods in the development of the nervous system for the sensory cortex such that kittens that have their eyes sutured closed will not develop normal vision. A similar critical window also exists for people born deaf. If they are never exposed to normal speech by an early age, then even with a hearing aid they will be unable to comprehend speech.

However, if the deafness is caught at an early age, one can have a cochlear implant surgery done, which enables to hear, adding a lot of speech therapy, a child can reach 100% speech development.

quote: "Technicaly yes, But its in there mind ..Not actually coming from the out side world itself

**If they were born deaf and don't know what words sound like, they would "hear voices" in a visual manner. They would actually see themselves doing things that a hearing person would "hear" themselves, or others, talking about doing. I wouldn't be surprised if the "voices" were actually visual signs from the American (or French, accordingly) Sign Language." end quote.

with respect,

when a skitsafrinic "hears" voices... he doesnt actually HEAR them talking at all... he actually FEELS the meaning of the thought... then his brain AFTERWORDS turns those thoughts into words... so he actually THINKS people are talking to him.... a deaf skit. just feels the thoughts...and that's enough for him to think somones there.... actually talking to him.
