Yes evolution and Christianity can coexist. The Book of Genesis is not a science book and it simply conveys the truth that God is the ultimate maker of the Universe and Life. The means of which God did it are up for discussion , but evolution could very well have been the method God used to make man. Christian Intellectuals such as C.S. Lewis, Francis Collins, Tim Keller, and various others have had no problem with evolution coexisting with Christian teaching.

∙ 15y agoMany Christians (including the late Pope John-Paul) are able to reconcile Christianity with evolution. In fact Christians have been able to reconcile their beliefs with scientific discoveries long before the discovery of natural selection.
Many other Christians, as well as many evolutionists recognize that the two belief systems are irreconcilable without doing serious damage to either one or the other. In other words, if each is taken at face value, they cannot be made to mix. Thus it is contended with some justification, that Christians who make their belief agree somehow with a belief in evolution are either ignoring or changing what their belief and the Bible upon what that belief is based really says.

Evolution is a piece of fiction from a scientist’s mind. Christianity is religion, it is prayer, it is belief and trust. Evolution is based on proof, Christianity is based on belief. Therefore they are quite different from each other. Evolution says we came from apes but where did the apes come from? It talks about Big Bang, but who created the Big Bang? Therefore whether it is Christianity or any other religion, it teaches us the basics of the Truth about life. But neither evolution nor Christianity can take us to the ultimate answer of God-realization. We need spirituality, it is a university, and we have to graduate beyond evolution, beyond religion to spirituality.
