I don't think it's the best food out there for them, but I guess it doesn't hurt. My cat ate some fish food when I used to have fish, and the only thing he got was breath tht smelled like fish.

It is probably not wise to put cat/dog food in fish tanks for several reasons. Cats and dogs require different things than fish. Cats' bodies are set up by nature to eat protein(and anything that could be found in the body of a prey). Dogs' body's are a bit more flexible-the can eat almost anything, within reason. It is best to select fish food based on the breed of fish, some stores like Walmart and Kmart even carry goldfish and beta food.

Yes you can! I have 26 goldfish in a backyard pond that I have been feeding only cat food for the past 4 years with great success. In the 70's, I did a science project with the same success.
