Ways to Enjoy 4x4 Trucks?

Wide varieties of manufacturers produce 4x4 trucks every year for consumer purchase. While the economy is stretched thin at present and individuals are generally wary of making new purchases, a 4x4 truck can be a wise investment for individuals that welcome the fun of numerous outdoor adventures. Three major ways to enjoy 4x4 trucks equal a really good excuse to invest in one soon. First, 4x4 trucks allow you the thrill of off-road driving. Second, 4x4 trucks have a much greater towing capacity than other vehicles. Third, 4x4 trucks can get you to camping destinations that would otherwise be impossible to reach.Off-Road ThrillsFew things compare with the thrill of off-road driving adventures. Rip across small creeks, tumble over rugged terrain and explore the countryside at a fast rate of speed. When you off-road in 4x4 trucks, you can literally drag yourself up the side of a mountain or roar downhill where there has never been and never will be a road to take you.Increased Towing CapacityIt is widely known that 4x4 trucks offer a terrific means of towing boats and trailers behind them. Thus, a 4x4 truck is the perfect companion for any fishing or water ski trip you may have in the works. While regular vehicles may be able to tow a small trailer behind them, 4x4 trucks are the highest power towers available to the consumer market today. Take advantage of the towing capacity 4x4 trucks provide and save money on towing for the full length of your ownership.More Camping PossibilitiesMany hard to reach campsites are seldom reserved by campers because they are just plain difficult to reach. However, 4x4 trucks allow you to rough it through on even the most poorly maintained roads and trails until you reach your final destination. Some of the most difficult to reach campsites are highly desirable spots next to lakes, streams or waterfalls. Owners of 4x4 trucks enjoy an expanded horizon of camping possibilities in which to adventure with their friends and family. In addition, the large storage capacity that 4x4 trucks provide make it simple to carry everything you need for an enjoyable camping trip.

How can you tell if vehicle is going from AWD to 4WD when off road is selected on a 1998 Explorer Limited?

On my '97, by turning the swith to "off-road" it only lifts the whole truck up a few inches (turn it to off-road and get out of it while running, you'll see.) I asked around what the difference between AWD and 4x4 and I was told that in our trucks the power ratio during normal operation is about 10% front and 90% rear. When the rear tires start to slip, like while off-roading, the transfer case just lets loose the power to the front. Supposedly there is a clutch in there, rather than a 4x4 high motor and a 4x4 low.
