Yes, however clear polyurethane has a yellow cast that will affect the color of the paint. Most water based clears are crystal clear, very durable and can be used in place of an oil-based clear coating.

∙ 11y agoYes, Olympic, along with other manufacturers, make a water based poly that can go over a water based paint. The label and data sheets do not say painted specifically on some of these products, but as long as they say they can be used over a sealed surface, then it will work fine.
The benefit of using water-based instead of oil-based poly is that water-based is crystal clear, instead of yellow like the oil product.

∙ 13y agoYes, the poly does not soak into the wood, for the most part, so it can be put on any stain/paint. I just put it over Behr Weatherproofing stain last week.
