It is extremely rare for surgical clips used during gallbladder surgery to break. These clips are typically made from non-reactive materials like titanium and are designed to withstand the forces and conditions within the body. However, if a surgical clip were to break, it could potentially cause complications. It is important to discuss any concerns with your surgeon.

How is a gallbladder operation done?

It is done by general anaesthetic. You have either key hole surgery which you recover from in two weeks or if there are complications during surgery the doctors may have to revert to open surgery which takes a lot longer to recover from. Sometimes people who are rushed in with emergency gallbladder problems have to have open surgery. So I advise anyone with stabbing chest pain that occurs after eating a lot of fatty food or alcohol to get it checked out. As its much easier to have key hole surgery.
