So long as:
1) Neither you nor your partner were infected prior to entering the relationship,
2) Neither you nor your partner have any other partners or risk factors*, and
3) You have not entered a new relationship subsequent to the monogamous one
you cannot contract herpes in that relationship.
* Risk factors can vary in other diseases but are not much of a concern with herpes
