technically it isn't the armor that's black it's the suit. Plus it looks cooler and you can't find black dye in any city.

Yes, you can buy armor from the blacksmith, you can dye your clothing from the tailor, and you can also unlock Altiar outfit by finding the assasin seals in the assassins tombs.

Unfortunately not, only normal armour can be dyed. If you want coloured armour just go into your villa and change into a different set then go to tailor!
You can only dye leather armor, when you have a part of leather armor get the dye colour you want move the dye over the armor in your inventory and press X and then you have the armor in the dye colour you wanted. It's that easy!
Go to the city of Forli (you get there eventually in the storyline). Go to a tailor there and purchase "wetlands ebony", this will dye your outfit (mostly at least) black.
There were two black robe sets in ACII - Ezio's standard robes could be dyed wetland ebony, and the Armour of Altair were black by default. -You could dye Ezio's robes Wetland Ebony at one of the tailors in Forli -Altair's robes could only be unlocked after all 6 assassin seals were acquired and placed in the crypt beneath the Villa Auditore
Take a piece of armor and use an orange dye on it.
