It depends how big your gap is. But don't worry because if you see me right now you are going to laugh like you never did. (My gap is so big that i can fit me whole tongue in it.) So if your gap is like mines you definitely need braces.

Do you have to have braces or can you just have a retainer?

Braces are designed to move your teeth into better alignment. A retainer is designed to keep your teeth in their current position following braces. If your teeth are where you want them to be, you do not need braces or a retainer. If they are not, you will need to have them moved with braces followed by a retainer to hold them in place.

Are you unconcious while getting braces?

There are dentists that work with heavily sedated patients, but why you would need that while getting braces is beyond me. Apart from having to keep your mouth open it's about as uncomfortable as getting a seed caught between your teeth.

How long does the wisdom teeth heal before getting braces?

The bottom answer is not totally correct. You must wait at least a few weeks, preferably 3 months, before getting braces in order to let the gums and the bone heal properly before putting on braces. They can never get braces because they will irritate the damaged gums.

When to get braces?

There are many ways to tell if you need braces. First of all there are different types of "bites" you could have The most common is the over, when your front teeth protrude too far. Second is an underbite, which is when your bottom teeth cover your top teeth. Third is called an open bite which occurs when you have space between you bottom and top teeth when you smile. The most common reason for one to need braces is if they have excess spacing between their teeth. Another reason is if your teeth are "misaligned". Your teeth are "misaligned" when the space between your top teeth is not perfectly aligned with the space of your bottom teeth. One of the last reasons is when your teeth are crowed, which simply means you don't have enough room in your mouth for your teeth! This is fixed one of two ways, braces or getting your teeth pulled most likely followed by braces.

What are dentists?

Dentist are people who clean, brush and floss your teeth. They also tell you when your teeth are coming in. They also tell you if you need braces. It is kinda scary going to the dentist at first. but once you are all done you want to go do it all over again.
