Well, if you didn't get the vaccine and you are around people that are infected and you come in contact with their mucus of phlegm or their infected eyes, avoid contact with you mouth or nose or you have a possibility of getting Polio five to thirty five days later. Your symptoms will be a sudden high fever and Flu- like symptoms so you should definitely go see your doctor.

You can get sick from swimming in polluted water. This is why Swimming Pools have chlorine in their water. It is save, theoretically, to swim in an unpolluted pond or lake, but the water should be tested because it is not possible actually to know the water is safe otherwise.

Swimming after eating can cause indigestion because the muscles will take the blood that should be used for digestive organs. Waiting an appropriate amount of time after eating will take care of that.

Another problem a person can have is if there are bacteria present in the water. Generally you have problems with eye or ear infections, or intestinal upset if you swallow the water. Water has to be regularly treated with the proper amount of disinfectant. Usually chlorine is used to kill the germs in the water, but other chemicals and systems are available. Other infections could occur depending on the bacteria or fungi present. If you notice green growth in the pool (typically on the walls) or other unpleasant conditions such as cloudy water, it would be best to check with the attendant or owner to be sure the water is safe for swimming. Most commercial pools will close if they have a water contamination problem, but a private one may not close, and you need to use discretion before entering.

Not only can sickness occur, but swimming within one hour of eating can cause cramps so severe that drowning can result.
