However, we are seeing more people have showers for subsequent babies, especially if they did not have a shower for the first baby, the second baby is of a different gender than the first child, or if there is a large age gap between the babies. A baby shower for a second or third baby is sometimes called a "sprinkle". Typically, the hostess will try to invite guests that have not been to the previous baby shower.

Since the purpose of a baby shower is to shower the new baby with gifts there is no good reason not to have a shower for each baby. Obviously if the second baby follows closely after the first or is the same sex as the first one would expect the mother to still have many of the things that she needs for the baby, but there are always items like diapers and clothing that get used up the first time around. Few mothers expect to receive a full brand new layette, but it is nice to know that 2nd and subsequent children are just as interesting as the first.

Well, the proper celebration for any child after the first born is a "baby sprinkle", at which everyone 'sprinkles' the child with gifts, since the parents already got all the big stuff (crib, carseat, playpen etc.) from the first baby. Baby sprinkles are usually a little more low-key than baby showers, especially when it comes to the gift. Most people use themes like a diaper party for baby sprinkles. No matter how many children a woman has, she will always need new diapers, wipes, baby food, and other stuff.
