You take one hand under the butt (they will feel insecure otherwise, and start kicking and scratching) and one hand to support the chest. You should hold them close to you or else the poor thing will get frightened and it will try to jump away. If a rabbit panics, it can seriously injure itself (it can break its own back by kicking into empty air, for instance). Rabbits are land-loving creatures: don't pick them up unless you must -- it's not fun for them (at least, most do not enjoy it).

You place one hand under the bum and then place the other on underneath them on their chest and then you place them on your chest with your hand still under their bottom they hate having their feet of a surface because they think their going to get killed by a predator so they will squirm and bite to get free which is why you need to pick them up like this and try and do it as quick as possible

You can if the Mother Rabbit is yours and it knows you and will let you touch her babies. You'll want the smell of the Mother Rabbit on your hands and then touch the babies and then put them back. Some moms will not want you to have their babies to long; and some mothers will get mean.

Yes, you can hold pet rabbits! You should not try holding wild rabbits -- wild animals should be left alone, for their safety and yours.

Some rabbits don't like to be held at all. Don't force a rabbit to be held, if he doesn't like it. If your rabbit prefers it, sit or lay beside him on the ground instead, and cuddle with him that way.

Rabbits like to be held different ways. The key is always to know your rabbit -- what she enjoys and how she's likely to act. When rabbits struggle to get away, they can easily hurt themselves. For instance, if a rabbit kicks hard into thin air, she can break her own back! Please note that if your bunny tries to twist away from you, it's either because he doesn't like the position, he doesn't like you, or he feels unsafe. To help ensure your bunny feels safe, remember to hold his hind legs or always rest his hind feet against something. However, if your bunny tries to twist away from you, gently put him down and let him go. Forcing your rabbit to cuddle or be held is dangerous and stressful for the rabbit, and over time it will damage your relationship and he won't trust you anymore. When rabbits don't trust the people around them, they're no fun at all.

Some people like to hold their bunnies in a baby cradle position with the rabbit laying on his back. Another way some rabbits like to be held is to lay his hind feet on your chest and have him laid against you. Other rabbits only like to be held by jumping onto your lap -- allow him to jump away when he wants to.

See the related link below for an example of how to safely pick up a rabbit.

Many rabbits don't like being held at all. If that's the case with your rabbit, it's best not to hold her: play with her on the ground, instead. If you have to hold your rabbit (for grooming, or first aid, or taking her away from a dangerous situation), then you should do it in a way that keeps the rabbit's stress levels to a minimum. In the long term, repeated stress can affect a rabbit's health and happiness. In the short term, when a rabbit is under stress, it might panic and this can easily lead to injury.

When you prepare to hold a rabbit, talk in a low, gentle, soothing tone of voice. Don't make sudden movements but approach it slowly. Keep children and other pets out of the room -- keep the atmosphere calm.

See the links below - they're good videos about how to pick up, handle, and care for rabbits. Some tips about holding rabbits:

- Always support the rabbit's hind legs. If a rabbit is panicking, and it kicks into thin air, it can actually break its own back.

- Never pick the rabbit up by the ears or leg(s). This is terrifying for the rabbit, extremely painful, and can lead to permanent injury.

- Keep the rabbit close to your body.

- Hold the rabbit securely, but don't squeeze it. Holding it close to your body is a good way to keep it secure.

One person writes: When I sit on the sofa with my rabbit I but her on my lap as she finds it more confortable, you must let them explore so when your rabbit comes off your lap just leave them as they are trying to tell you that they have had enough love and would like to be left alone for a bit. When getting them out their cage the best way to do that is to put one hand from their head to their bum then the other one unde their chest.
