Have never really tried that. I found it easier just to drop the front of the gas tank, open the lock and replace the original electric with a new one. This way, the pump is secure and you will have the correct pressure. Just make sure that the tank is almost empty and use a new o-ring with a little grease on it. You can also remove the whole tank, it will come out even by the exhaust pipe. This way it is right in front of you.
