It depends on the crime and whether you have cleaned up your act since then. According to the Canadian Army website: "Having a criminal record may or may not preclude a career in the Canadian Forces". However, they require you to have no outstanding issues with the legal system. In other words, if you are currently in trouble, you won't be considered.

Family court issues, pending criminal charges, unpaid fines, probation and parole issues will all be taken into consideration.
