You can't
GMail is still in 'beta-testing'(is still being worked on and may contain bugs) and therefor not freely available. The "invite-only" status of GMail has made it very desirable and has been Avery successful marketing campaign for Google, because people always want what they can't get! As such, it is unlikely that Google will make GMail available 'to all' any time soon.If you want an account the only way you will obtain one is by invite. Lots of people advertise that they have invites available. Never exchange money for an invite, this is against GMail's policy. Try a search for "GMail invites" on Google, Weblogs/blogs are a good place to look, but remember, people are not obliged to give you an invite!
I have over a thousand invites what's your email address? If you want one email me bbuesing@gmail.com
Many discussion forums have GMail-related address trading in action. People were selling invites on eBay too for a time, though I guess that's stopped as there are so many.
Google is currently testing its G-Mail program in many different ways, which continually change. They are also always adding server space. Because of all these changes, they want to control how many people are using the services. Because of this, you cannot just join GMail. However, many people are registered and more people still do (through invitations) everyday. Try to find somebody who you know is registered and ask them to invite you. People registered can invite 50 people to the service. If the person says they don't want to use theirs up, tell them that the number of invites is replenished again over time, so they don't need to worry. Good luck getting in!
Rock on,
