Can you replace backlight lamp CCFL in your laptop LCD screen?

Yes, you can replace the backlight lamp aka CCFL in your laptop but it's not easy.
You'll have to take apart the laptop display panel, remove the LCD screen and then disassemble the LCD screen. This project my take a few hours and if you have no experience you can damage the screen.
If the backlight lamp is bad I would recommend replacing the hole screen.
Instructions for removing the screen you can find in the laptop service manual.
A new screen you can find on the internet if you search by the part number. The part number is usually located on the back of the LCD screen.

∙ 16y agoTo replace CCFL Lamps you must open the monitor and pull out the old bulbs, solder the leads coming off the bulbs onto the new ones and replace back into the monitor. To connect laptop to TV all you need is an s-video cable. You can get them at dollar stores. On most laptops, there is a plug that looks like where you would plug in a mouse on a desktop PC. How do you fix a laptop screen that is dark but you can still see very faintly the home screen?
To state the obvious, make sure the brightness is turned up. This is usually a function key on the keyboard (the icon is probably shaped like a sun). If this doesn't accomplish anything, then the backlight on the LCD may be damaged, or else there could be a problem with the inverter. (I had a very similar problem myself: the screen would appear incredibly dark when I turned it on/woke it up, and then openning and shutting it a bit or jiggling sometimes helped, at least for a while - this is NOT a solution, it's merely a quick fix, and it only works so many times.) The inverter is more likely to be the cause: the backlight is a CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) and such last longer than the inverter. You can purchase an inverter or backlight relatively cheaply on the internet - I would recommend checking the related links I've provided, they have more information on the possible problems and fixes, as well as instructions on how to replace the inverter or backlight. :-)

Why is laptop screen black but its on?
Could be a problem with the circuitry connecting to the monitor. Take it to the nearest computerplace and they can diagnose the problem. A few common problems.... Defective screen cable or loose connectoin, bad inverter, or CCFL backlight on laptop models per 2010. Cable issues produce a black screen while an inverter usually produces a faint image. Also a bad graphics card is a possibility.

Got sick of you yelling at it. Could be many things. Is it switched on? Could be the Cold Cathode Flourescent Lamp (CCFL) has failed or the inverter that drives it. Can you see a picture if you look closely with a flash light? If so, then this is the case above.
What is the difference between ccfl and eefl?
CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamp) is different from EEFL (external electrode fluorescent lamp) in that the glass tube of the CCFL contains a small wire electrode that conducts the voltage to excite the gasses in the tube. The glass tube is molded around the electrode and that junction creates a possible point for the gasses to escape and the lamp to fail. EEFL is a completely sealed glass tube with a metal cap or conductive paint on the end acting as the electrode. When the proper voltage is applied to the external electrode, a capacitive connection is established between the electrode and the gasses within the tube and the lamp illuminates. Because the electrodes in CCFL's are in direct contact with the rare gasses, CCFL's run warmer than the EEFL's which are completely cool.
