Yes

BE SURE TO Check RPM

5hp at 1800 rpm needs 25hp at 3600 rpm

caveat :

single phase motors are bigger physically

consume more power and run at higher current (73% higher current)

and take longer to get up to speed

so the frame size may be different

shaft size and bolt circle height of the shaft etc

this is an easy task with a belt drive

with the single bearing motor on some smaller compressors its impossible

another possibility:

small drives for 3phase motors have come down in price and may work just fine on single phase and may be cheaper than a single phase motor...

can perhaps do pressure regulation by varying the speed of the motor

instead of the noisy on off stop start ... fill the tank and idle speed up with demand...wont need to blow the air for the unloader

soft start will increase the life of all the mechanical stuff

What are three terminals on a single phase compressor motor?

C = common S= start R= run

Can you replace a three phase motor 3 Hp RPM 1420 with a single phase motor for a planer?

Probably not. The single phase three horse power motor will be much larger in physical size than its three phase counterpart, and will probably not fit.

What size motor do you need to run a compressor 2 stage 80 gallon tank i have a 3 phase on it and want to change motor?

You probably need a 5hp or 7hp motor. Look for HP rating o the 3 phase motor and select the same for single phase. 3 phase has same power but is more efficient at electricity use. Also consider a 3 phase converter. It allows a 3 phase motor to run on single phase service.

What is the difference between a single phase compressor and a 3 phase compressor?

One uses single phase AC current (120/240), the other uses 3 phase AC current (most households will not have 3 phase in their home) One uses a 3 phase motor the other a single phase motor. 3 phase is usually used in industrial applications while single phase is used in home or small business apps.

Can a single phase generator run a 3 phase air conditioner?

Depending on who does the work it could be less expensive than getting a different air conditioner. The compressor will also need a capacitor and some rewiring. The old unit could have a 3 phase blower motor also which could run the price up even more. Although the changes can be made, the warranty at best will probably be a one year warranty and a new unit could have a 5-10 year warranty.

What kind of single phase motor would most likely be used to drive a refrigeration compressor?

I would use a totally enclosed motor.

What would be the horse power required in a 3-phase motor to replace a .5 horsepower single phase motor.?

You still need the same horsepower. The advantage of the three-phase motor is that it will draw lower current.

How do you check single phase motor winding?

Single phase motor winding is often checked just by listening to the noise that the motor is making. An experienced person can tell if the motor is working at single phase or double phase.

What type of load is a 3 phase compressor motor?

In electrical terms a three phase compressor is a compressor that is driven with a three phase motor. There are compressors that have three pressure heads. The three heads boost the pressure up in higher increments but these are referred to as three stage compressors.

Can you replace a 480-240V 3-phase motor with a single phase motor as a temporary replacement or will it burn it out?

Yes, you can, and it won't burn out IF>>> the horsepower rating is the SAME. Pay attention to wiring and motor rotation. Also check the voltage: the motor voltage must be the same as the voltage between two hots of your 3 phase system. You will only use two hots as this is a single phase motor.

Is 3 phase motor run on 1 phase supply?

No. That would be a single phase motor.

What is the difference between a one phase and a three phase motor. And if a three phase motor is given a single phase supply will it run or not?

The difference between a single phase and a three phase motor is the amount of power conductors that feed the device. As to the other part of the question a three phase motor will not start or run on single phase. The phase angles on three phase are 120 degrees apart on a single phase system they are 180 degrees apart.
