Replacing the serpentine belt on a 1996 Ford Contour 4-cylinder with AC do you need to remove anything from the car to reach the tensioner?
Answer . I just replaced the serpentine belt on my 1996 Ford Contour. I opted to remove the front passenger-side tire to gain access to the tensioner. Once I was able to get to the tensioner pulley, I had the old belt off and replaced within 10 minutes. I did have some help, though. It is much ea…sier to have one person release the tension while another puts the new belt into place. . 22:42, 14 Mar 2009 ~ . No, you do not have to remove it. It is also possible to release the tensioner top-side. I once had a tensioner go bad in the parking lot at work and had to replace it there with what I had in my trunk. It is easier with the tire off, but if you have to a slim ratchet with a shallow socket should do the trick. (MORE)
Answer . go to the parts store and ask for a belt for that vehicle.
To replace the sepentine belt you have to first find the tensioner. You should have a diagram under the hood, on top of the radiator that can tell you which one is the tensioner and how the belt suppose to be hooked up to the different pulleys. When you find the tensioner, you have to use either a r…achet or a wrench to release the tension to pry the belt out. You can also go to autozone.com and get more info about this. (MORE)
If you are wanting to stop the A/C from working, then just pull the fuse or disconnect the power to the compressor clutch. take the slack by using a half inch rachet on the tension pully, remove the part of the belt from the a/c compressor use a peice of string or tape and mark the slack auto will gi…ve you a belt that will be close to what u need . Can you get a serpentine belt that will not run the ac compresser for your 2003 Ford Taurus 3 liter?
no,not unless you find a braket that will fit the engine. i havent yet. if you get a belt short enough to fit the belt will rub togather an smoke until it falls off.

Answer . \nLook up under the passenger's side dash close to the kick panel, and you will see a heater case. there on the front is\na removable cover, held on with several 7mm screws. Remove that cover, disconnect the heater hoses under the hood, \nand replace the core. Reassembly is in reverse o…rder of removal. (MORE)
Answer . \nIf the compressor is in the path of the belts you will need to remove it. If it is outside the path you can simply replace the belt with a smaller belt. Serpentine belts are sized by their number of grooves and length. For example: a 50.5" circumference belt with 6 grooves wwould be : …6K505 or a variation of that. Take a wire and run it along the new belt path to get a idea for the length and count the grooves. Good luck!. Answer . \nYou would have to get a shorter belt. Why do you want to bypass it? Just unplug the compressor clutch or pull the fuse and use as is. The clutch will not engage and there will be no drag on the engine. (MORE)
Answer . \nTo answer this i need to know what size engine your talking about.
How do you check the ac compressor on a ford zx2 2000 the ac clutch pulley is bent from serpentine belt breaking?
Answer . \nThe A/C compresor is low on the front of the engine, up inside the engine\ncompartment. I have never heard of a serpentine blt "bending" a pulley...\nWhen an idler pulley bearing fails and siezes, it will break a belt. This\nis most likely the cause of belt failure. If the A/C comp…ressor drive is\nnot turning by hand, this is most likely the cause. There is a bearing\non the nose of the compressor that allows the hub to rotate and "drive" \nthe compressor when the clutch is activated. The A/C clutch is replaceable\nwithout replacing the entire compressor assembly.\nCheck all the pulleys and make sure another one is not also failed. (MORE)

How do you replace the serpentine belt on a Ford E150 Van 1995 4.9 no AC 6cly does someone have a routing diagram?
Answer . \nThere should be a routing diagram under the hood. If not, take a digital picture of it before removal. Pry the idler pulley back and the belt slips right off.

1988 Buick Lasabre Can you replace the serpentine belt with a belt for a car without AC since the AC doesn't work anyway?
Yes, as long as the air conditioning pulley is not in the way of the belt's travel.. Note that a little trial and error fitting may or may not be required. If the belt specified by manufacturer for non air conditioned vehicle doesn't fit, feel free to experiment with sizes. Either they'll fit or th…ey won't, your parts person should be able to help with this. (MORE)

You can find a schematic for the serpentine belt on a 2000 FordFocus 2.0L SOHC motor without A/C in the owner's manual. You canalso check with local auto part stores.
most vehicles have the belt routing under the hood if this is no longer available some auto part stores have a manual [book] that will show this

Having the same problem with my f150...same year...same size. I went to O'Reilly's and asked for a non a/c belt and when the salesman was pulling up the info on his computer, he came across the belt track diagram for both the a/c and the non a/c belts. He told me that judging by the sketches, it s…howed the pulleys to be in different locations on the belt route. He said by what he could see, a non a/c belt wouldn't work. I don't know why, and I never got a second opinion. I never tried it myself though...just took his word for it. (MORE)
The whole system probably requires aprox 10 ounces. If your only replacing the compressor I would add 3 ounces into the suction port, then rotate pump clockwise by hand several times before engaging pump.
i would go to a auto parts store and buy a serpentine belt tensioner tool. this isn't an easy task. i would suggest having another person to help you. also make sure you have a diagram of how the belt goes.
the easyiest way to change it would be to buy the belt then take it to the ford dealer ship and have them put it on

The ac compressor is locked up can i by pass it with the serpentine belt-if so what is the size of the belt bypassing the ac compressor.?
Many cars can have the ac compressor bypassed. Buying a belt forthe same model vehicle without ac should be the correct length fora replacement.
Hey, I just bypassed the ac compressor on my 97 Dakota V.6 I used a Napa 7 ribbon belt item number K070905 it was a pricey belt $84.00 where I live. After that all you need is the longest handled ratchet you have and a 15mm socket. The tensioner is located to your left and a little bit down it's a l…ittle pulley with the grooves on it and an arm attached to it. Turn the bolt with your ratchet to the right towards the battery and that will give you the slack you need to get the belt off be sure to let it back slowly and don't push it too far and break the spring. Repeat the last process to put the belt on I found that putting the belt on the pulley to the far right was the easiest. There you go you're done (MORE)
In Short Yes Did it on my own 01 civic Just need to get different belt for the alternator
The heater core is difficult to change on the Ford trucks. They have it buried in the plenum box and you have to remove the steering wheel, steering column, dash, evacuate the refrigerant system, drain the radiator, and remove the plenum box to get to the core. Replacing the core is easy, getting to… it is a day's work. You need to be sure that the heater core is really the problem before tackling this job. If you have a pool of coolant on the floor, you'll have to go after the core. If the problem is lack of heat, there are some things you need to eliminate before tearing into the truck. You need to make sure that coolant is flowing through the core. Check the temperature of the heater hoses going into the firewall when the engine is cool and see if they warm up together as the engine warms up. If both hoses get hot at about the same rate, this is a good indication that coolant is flowing through the core. You can also remove the hoses and flush the core with a water hose splice from Home Depot and a water hose. Water should flow unobstructed through the core. If it appears that coolant is flowing and you don't have obvious leaks, the next step is to check the blend door. This door controls the air flow through the heater core and failure is common on Ford trucks. When the door breaks, it can block the flow of air through the core and kill heat and will also have an impact on AC. If the system seems to work intermittently, it's a good indication that the door is broken and rattling around randomly blocking or opening the passage to the core. For diagnostic information on how to check the operation of the blend door and a cheap easy fix, check the heatertreater listing on Ebay or the web site at heatertreater.net. The dealer fix for the blend door is basically the same procedure for replacing the heater core, so it will be expensive. The HeaterTreater alternative will solve the problem at a fraction of the cost and work and is well within the capability of the average shade tree mechanic. (MORE)
YUP! Most fords including taurus', trucks, Etc. Have an after market idler pulley assembly that can mount where the compressor would bolt up. Or, crack that bad boy open........................HE HE HE!
Serpentine Belt Under the hood should be a diagram of the belt, this is your best reference without the service manual. All you have to determine is which direction to rotate the belt tensioner, and then put the belt back on as shown in the diagram. If it is not you can run down to your nearest auto… parts store and they can print it out for you or just buy the Hayes or chilton manual on your car. It only cost a few bucks and it well helps you out later down the line if something else brakes. (MORE)
Go to Auto Zone and ask them for the belt for your particular model WITHOUT ac. You MAY have to move, or remove, the compressor, but I don't think so.
find the tensioner, get the correct wrench to rotate the tensioner. swing it aside enough to get the old belt off , carefully route the new belt making sure it is sitting on all the pulleys correctly, swing the tensioner aside to create enough slack to put the belt in place.
Go to your auto parts store and have them order you a new belt, but make sure you order one without ac. yes, but you can not use the belt for the no A/C option it is too short. I just did mine & used DAYCO 5070900, I also had to trim down a bolt that holds the water pipe
Yes you can. However, they do not make a specific serpentine belt for bypassing the ac compressor on a 99-01 Hyundai Sonata. You would have to measure the exact length you need to bypass the ac compressor. The belt would then go around the power steering, crankshaft, and alternator. The tension can …be adjusted to fit this custom belt as well. (MORE)
there are three bolts under the transmission case by the converter clutch butterfly valve take them off and its under there but make sure you have completely removed the gasket
Could a serpentine belt from a Buick Skylark without ac be used for a Buick LeSabre in order to bypass the ac compressor?
I would call a dealer's service center first. If it's only the size of the belt you need, there may be one that will fit. . Pleas do not re-direct people to where they can find information or the wiki police will scorn you. But the belt will not work. Dorman makes a pulley and bracket to replace co…mpressor. You might just replace compressor with a used one too. (MORE)
Disconnect the negative battery cable. Rotate the belt tensioner toloosen the belt tension. Remove the belt. Install the new beltmaking sure that the belt goes over the pulleys in the same manneras the old one. Release the tensioner, and reconnect the battery.
use a 1/2 inch ratchet on the pivot point on the tensioner pulley, and turn to take tension off the belt...then slip the belt off all the other pulleys. install the new one, by squeezing it into a small loop that can be inserted into the space between the tensioner, and the idler pulley, loop it on…to all the pulleys per the diagram located on radiator cowling, take tension off the tension pulley, to get it back on completely and release the tension slowly..making sure it is lined up correctly on all pulleys (MORE)
You don't!!!! If the a/c clutch is stuck and causing your engine not to start, you can do one of two things. You can buy/rent a puller, pull off the a/c clutch and install a new one. The a/c will probably not work, but at least the belt will turn and you can start the car. The other option is to… replace the a/c compressor. Now...a cheap way to do this if you don't mind driving a car without an air conditioner (i've done it for 6 years now...in arizona!!), is to go to a junk yard and get an old a/c compressor off of a car that's clutch is not stuck. Put it in your car and it will work. You cannot "re-route" a serpentine belt. I've never heard of anyone ever doing that! (MORE)
The "Related Question" below has links to online sources of serpentine belt routing diagrams - they do cover vehicles back to the 80's. Just fill in the vehicle information and select no a/c.
i am looking for an answer to this question myself. i cant seem to find a place that makes the bypass pulleys for the 3.5 liter g6. im also not sure if u can just reroute a shorter belt, as there may be another pulley in the way. if i figure it out i ll repost. if u find the answer yourself, please …let me know with a repost (MORE)
You will not be able to route a different belt without the compressor even if you use a shorter belt but you can sometimes get what is called a "bypass" pulley for some of the models but I would need to know the year and engine size to see if one is available.......
I have a95 sl1 saturn with a bad ac compress that rattles and want torerout the serpentine belt off the compress. What is the typical cost and is it worth it?
If that model was available without a/c, you will need to purchase the belt for a 95 town car w/out ac, and follow the appropriate belt routing diagram for that model.
Sometimes you simply cant guess what size you ought to use because the way the AC compressor is layed out doesn't allow you to run a serpentine belt as it may be in the way of the belt. However if you remove the compressor you can sometimes use the non-AC part number for the belt providing none of t…he other ancillaries that are run by the belt have been moved around in order to fit the AC compressor. Some garage computer programs provide the drawings of the positioning of the different components that are driven by the belt. There you can compare if all these components remain in the same locations as in your vehicle. If this is the case you can install the non-AC belt prior to removing your compressor and see if the correct tension is maintained. Hope this helps. PS: Do not run an engine on a faulty compressor as if it seizes it could potentially destroy your engine (common fault on Renault clios) (MORE)

Replacing the serpentine belt on a 1996 Ford Contour 4 cyl with AC do you need to remove anything from the car to reach the tensioner?
You should be able to get at it with one of the special tools available at most auto parts stores - they are inexpensive, and look like a long, flat piece of metal with a 1/2" square drive on one end to engage the idler arm.
Well just replaced both of those this evening the air compressor was 314.00 the serpentine belt was 80.00 four refrigerant around 70.00 and oil for the pump was 9.00 it was a expensive fix and watching my husband work on it for a few hours was priceless!
