yes you can i did and its fine
There should be a radio fuse in the fusebox that you will want to tie your radio wire into.
take a red power wire run it from the positive side of the battery to the amp. Take a yellow wire run it from the amp to the fuse panel and tie it in to the radio fuse. Then run your jacks from the radio to the amp and speaker wires from radio to amp.
Run the yello wire of your new radio to a constant power wire (usually orange). A good one is the orange wire running to your cigarette lighter.
there is no accesory switch wire on the 02 malibu.....you must run your accessory wire from your aftermarket radio to the thick brown wire coming out of the ignition to the left of the radio bay and put a fuse in the wire close to where you tapped into the brown wire on the wire from your radio also your door chimes will work again
the easiest thing to do is to find the wire for that door on the back of the radio and re run it

I know that if you have an aftermarket radio it will make it go off. the stock radio goes through the computer. you have to run a separate constant and acc power to your radio. or if you have a draw on the power to the fusebox in the engine compartment. .
eliminate the resistor wire all together but you want to run a new larger 12 gauge wire into the same circuit , in order to do that you need to take the fuse box down inside the car and you will see where that resistor wire ties into a big wire in the fusebox, it comes from the ignition switch, you need to tie into that big wire with your 12 gauge wire that you have run from the HEI.
