Simple answer: you can't. Wage garnishments are awarded by the court upon the application of your creditor(s). You shouldhave received a notice that this was going to happen and offering you the chance to appear to contest it. Now that it has occurred you will have to go to court and file a motion for reconsideration and see if it is possible to re-open your case.

∙ 14y agoYes, it can be done, but you will have a difficult time doing it yourself. Once a collection agency is getting money from you through garnishment, they will not willingly lift the garnishment.
There are a few companies that specialize in getting people out of defualt and lifting garnishments. One company that I know is very good at this is Default Management Services, Inc. You can find them at www.defaultms.com

∙ 12y agoYes, my wages were being garnished due to a auto accident my son was in after he stole my car. I was being sued by Nationwide Insurance Co., I had to contact an attorney and because I never received certified notification of the court date, my attorney was able to file a motion to stop the garnishment. There of course was a judgment and then the attorney for nationwide put a judgment suspension on my drivers license and my registration for my vehicle. In the end I had to file chapter 13 bankruptcy to get my driving privileges and to get my finances on track....Good luck.

From there, the amount of the garnishment is subtracted from what is left of an employee's income after federal, state, and local taxes have been deducted.

If you submit to the court to ask for installment payments and the court agrees your garnishment will stop. Legal documents can be found for free. Not sure what the cost is to submit this court document.
