No... You should not use baking powder instead of baking soda because there is a different effect in the rising of what you are baking and it could possibly effect the taste depending on the thing you are baking/making.

I have a pool business in Va. & have been using baking soda in instead of P.H. increaser for years on salt & chlorine pools.P.H. increase & baking soda are basically the same thing. sodium carbonate/ sodium bicarbonate.

∙ 13y agoNo. Check with a pool supply store to be sure. They will probably recommend pool acid.
Note: Be sure to use the correct acid, and in the correct amount. Again, a pool supply store can help with both of these considerations. baking soda is a alkaline salt, so it will have little effect. An acid is required to counter alkalinity.

You can use baking soda to raise the pH level in a hot tub, however soda ash will work better. Borax even better than that. The issue with baking soda is that it more readily raises Total Alkalinity so will have a larger effect on TA rather than pH.

I am told by my local pool, expert that using baking soda in place of 1 or 2 pounds of Alkalinity Up is OK but for larger amounts, it may make the water cloudy because baking soda has larger granules than Alkalinity Up.

Baking soda is not the best choice as it more readily increases Total Alkalinity. Soda ash on the other hand will do an excellent job. (available at most hardware stores as an acid neutralizer)
