Absolutely. I recently started using Eco-lab Royal Brite powdered detergent at home - 2 oz per load in a 25 lb front load machine. This detergent works better than any retail product I've ever tried. In fact, my wife recently remarked that the lace on her undergarments now actually shines - something that hasn't happened since new!! I also use Eco-lab Perfusion (carpet stain remover) at 1 oz per load as an additive for lifting stains from white towels. The white towels are now bright white. While these products are significantly more expensive than retail alternatives, it is still a small price to pay to keep my OCD significant other happy.

How much laundry detergent you need in order for it to be effective depends on how many clothes you are washing. It also depends on how concentrated the detergent is.
