No! It would just flake off like chalk after drying!

Gouache is a watercolor-like paint made with gum arabic and chalk (which makes the color opaque, i.e. you cannot see through the color). When dry, it has a unique, velvety texture and rich, deep color. Years after a gouache painting has dried, it can still be blended and re-worked with a wet brush. It was the standard medium in fashion illustration and popular with illustrators until the introduction of commercial design markers.

Use it on illustration board!

What is gauche paint used for?

"GOUACHE", paints, (pronounced 'g-wash') are water soluble paints in the watercolor family. Unlike traditional watercolor paint, which is translucent, gouache is an opaque medium, with a matte finish as opposed to a lustre. It can be mixed with traditional watercolor, and painted OVER watercolor, for interesting effect.

How can you tell if a tube of paint is watercolor or acrylic if it isn't labeled?

Acrylic is not water soluble once dry. Watercolor can be reactivated with water.Dilute a small amount of paint in the normal manner for painting and make a brush stroke on a piece of scrap paper. Wash out your brush. Let the paint stroke dry for 20 minutes and then try to re-wet it with a brush full of water. If it re-wets and smears, it's watercolor. If it remains untouched, it's acrylic.
