Can you wallpaper over vinyl walls?

Yes. Use a vinyl-over-vinyl paste to ensure proper adhesion. Keep in mind though that many vinyls are designed to be strippable and often leave behind a surface that makes an excellent backing paper.

How do you remove wallpaper border?

use a utility knife to peel up a piece of the border and slowly peel off the vinyl fronting with your fingers. then soak down the paper backing with a commercial wallpaper paste solvent such as DIF according to directions (the hotter the water the better) , let sit 15 min.,re-wet and scrape off paper backing using a dull (so as not to damage the drywall) scraper or hopefully your fingers. re-wet the paper backing often.

what to do with stubborn wallpaper?

If the wallpaper removal doesn't work, you can try splashing some water on it. Then rip the wall paper off. Another option would be to paint over the wallpaper.

Can you use drywall mud over wall paper?

No, it will almost certainly loosen the wallpaper.

Can you wallpaper over paneling?

Yes, but if the panelling has grooves in it you will have to mud these in and sand repeatedly or they will show thru the wallpaper. Also you want to ensure the panelling is very clean or the wallpaper won't stick well. Finally you may want to consider using liner paper in between the panelling and wallpaper

Can you paint over wallpaper successfully?

Are you planning to paint over the wallpaper? Make sure there are no loose ends or bubbles in the paper. Latex flat or satin paint will work but you will see the seams in the wallpaper and the paint may cause the paper to lift off the wall. Better to remove the paper first for the best look and most durability. I had to paint over paper and decided to texture the wall first with a skim coat of plaster. Doesn't look bad but a LOT of work!

Will Wallpaper sizing work hanging wallpaper over wallpaper?

Will Wallpaper sizing work hanging wallpaper over wallpaperYes, but it has been my experience that you will never be fully happy with the results. I always remove old wallpaper prior to changing to a different wall-covering. It just makes for a better finished job. Note: If you decide to remove the old wallpaper I use white vinegar and warm water applying several coats, after removing as much of the "easily" removed loose paper.

Can you wallpaper over old wallpaper?

What are the steps in changing wallpaper?

1) clear the room, stripping wallpaper is messy. 2) determine if the wallpaper is vinyl coated, or not. This is done by applying a bit of water. If the water rolls off with no effect yo most likely have a vinyl or vinyl coated paper. If water soaks into the paper you have an older type of paper that has no water protection. 3) check for a seam, bubble, or flaw in the paper and try to peel the paper from the wall. In some cases this works quite well. Many of the easily stripped papers will leave a base coat of paper behind, it is usually but not always tan or buff colored. Once the outer layer is off, saturate the backing with warm water and vinegar (or a good quality wallpaper remover). Allow it to soak in a bit and using a plastic wall scraper or wide putty knife scrape the wet backing from the wall. 3 a) if you can not get the paper to peel you will need a "paper tiger" a tool with multiple sharp tips on the "business" side. Move the tool in a circular motion over the surface of the paper, scoring the top layer, do a good job of this as the more scoring the better penetration of the wallpaper remover. Using a sponge, a sprayer or a steamer, apply the commercial wallpaper remover solution to the paper, allow to soak in and using a plastic scraper and a lot of patience scrape the paper off. Clean up and dispose of all the paper removed from the walls. 4) using a mild detergent and warm water wash all paste, backing residue etc from the walls. 5) allow to dry completely. 6) always prime the newly exposed wall before painting, this might be a good time to address any structural damage and repairs needed.
