Most impound places have a set amount of time you can let your car sit there before they will sell it at auction. You could probably call and ask them what there policy is about selling cars, and how long they have to stay there before they will sell it. I know that in the state of Mississippi, if a car sits on your lot for more than 3 months, it is considered an "abandoned vehicle". You can list it in the newpaper, and if the legal owner doesn't show up to pick up the vehicle, you can apply for a title on it in your name, and then it is legally yours. Hope this helps.
