Why even bother with regional codes in the first place? It's nothing but an annoyance. What I do, is an online search for something like `hitachi+dvd+hacks' and see if I can find the regional code shut-off commands which can be entered from your handheld remote control and completely disable them.… Then the regional codes are no longer an issue.\n. \nApex DVD players have ton's of code hacks and so do many others. Just remember to be careful to check more than one site before trying them to be sure everyone's on the same page with the code numbers.\n. \nRemember too, you could disable you player so you do this at your own risk and I'll bear no responsibility for your actions. (Although I think it's kinda hard to mess a machine up, I know it can be done.) (MORE)

DVD region codes are present to prevent users playing a DVD from one region, say North America on a player from another region, Europe for example. The region coding is a purely commercial restriction designed to control the release and distribution of content. The region coding is normally hard cod…ed into the player's operating system and cannot be changed with any user controls. Some players can be changed to a new region or made region free with software enhancements but these are third party changes and will invalidate warranties for the players. The ever changing product lines make it impossible to suggest reliable third party software changes for models. (MORE)

From Wikipedia: . The origin of the Thar Desert is a controversial subject. Some consider it to be 4000 to 1,000,000 years old, whereas others state that aridity started in this region much earlier. Another theory states that area turned to desert relatively recently: perhaps around 2000 - 1500 BC…. Around this time the Ghaggar ceased to be a major river. It now terminates in the desert. It has been observed through remote sensing techniques that Late Quaternary climatic changes and neotectonics have played a significant role in modifying the drainage courses in this part and a large number of paleochannels exist.. Most of the studies share the opinion that the palaeochannels of the Sarasvati coincide with the bed of present day Ghaggar and believe that the Sutlej along with the Yamuna once flowed into the present Ghaggar riverbed. It has been postulated that the Sutlej was the main tributary of the Ghaggar and that subsequently the tectonic movements might have forced the Sutlej westwards, the Yamuna eastwards and thus dried up the Ghaggar. First of all, what region is your PC already set in. If its region 2 then it will play the DVD, but if it is some other region apart from 0 or "all" it will not work and will require you changing your region of the drive. You should keep in mind that the drive allows a very limited number change…s before it is permanently locked. I have heard of ways around the region, but do not know of them personally. If you wish you may pursue this option if you believe the benefits are worth the work. btw VLC has no real influence into the mechanics of region coding and so this query should not be classified as a VLC Media Player question. DVD region coding is printed into the DVD along with the rest of the data on the disc. It won't go away until the disc is destroyed. Region coding is also present in most DVD players. Although there are some hacks that can remove the coding limitation, they invariably void all warranties, can somet…imes kill the player and don't always work. Generally, it is much less expensive and far less effort just to buy the right DVD for the right region. The coding is present to limit the market for each distribution chain. The small saving in cost by buying an American disc to play in Europe is wiped out by the effort and cost of bypassing the coding, so the coding system works for the content producers. (MORE)
