Cancun and the Mayan Riviera are on the eastern, Caribbean side of the Yucatan Peninsula. Cancun is at the northeastern corner of such Peninsula, while the Mayan Riviera is a stretch of land along the Cancun-Chetumal federal road, from Puerto Morelos (some 8 kilometers or 5 miles south of Cancun) down to Punta Allen, some 130 kilometers (80 miles) due south.
In terms of nightlife, Cancun has much more variety, including many bars and restaurants along the Zona Hotelera. If you prefer to see archaeological ruins, do some ecotourism or simply are looking for empty beaches where to spend some relaxing time, the Mayan Riviera is your best bet.

To be honest they thought that the world was flat, and the sky was held up by four trees in the corners...AND that the world floated on a giant crocodile in a pond of lillies...and people believe their predictions?! What are they on about, just because some people say it, it does not mean it is true, i would not get so worked up about it, we have great scientists, and they say nothing, so do not believe what the Mayans say...as it is obviously rubbish! For the moment the Vikings are the better team based on their 12-4 record vs. Pittsburgh's 9-7 and Minnesota's deep playoff run in 2009. This of course can change in 2010.
