The Medal of Honor is primarily awarded to members of the United States armed forces, specifically for extraordinary acts of valor in combat. However, there have been rare cases where civilians have been awarded the Medal of Honor for their exceptional bravery and heroism during military operations. Examples include Mary Edwards Walker, a surgeon during the American Civil War, and Dr. Joseph K. Brant, a Native American physician who served in the American Indian Wars.
It is a military award and civilians are not eligible to receive it.
*This is true, to an extent. Civilians have won it before but they can't now. Several civilians won the medal for acts during the Civil War. Many of these medals were struck from the records during the period from 1916 to 1919 as the services redefined what the MOH would be awarded for. A few civilians did get their medals reinstated in the 1980's and 90's. Navy civilian ship pilots Martin Freeman and John Ferrell, Army civilian scout William Woodall, and Mary Walker, a surgeon at the Battle of Bull Run, the only woman to get the medal so far.
So, a civilian can't receive it now, but there are some civilians who are legitimate recipients.
The Medal of Honor is EARNED!

Medal of Freedom for Civilians
No Ediso did not receive the Medal of Honor. The last civilian to actually recieve the Medal of Honor was just about 1917. Then Congress caught up to itself and forbade civilians to recieve any more Medal's of Honor.
it won the honor not the medal.
Jack Lummus of the New York Giants won the Medal of Honor and was killed at Iwo Jima.
Honor is like that you are won and you are bright and the medal look like you are the won of your class and brightly ad ofcourse studying well...
The Congressional Medal of Honor is awarded only for military service, not for civilian service. Civilians do not win it. The Congressional Gold Medal and the Presidential Medal of Freedom are the hight civilian honors given in the US. Now, it may be possible that the Congressional Medal Honor has been given by mistake a few times or to civilians who took heroic actions during a war they were officially not a part of. While most erroneous medals were revoked, it seems that a few civilians did get to keep theirs since they were in some paramilitary organization and did what would be considered heroic military service.
First of all the Medal of Honor is not "won" it is awarded. Won implies it was a competition. 50 Army medical department Soldiers and 2 Army medical department civilians have been awarded the Medal of Honor. Of those recepients; 16 were officers and 33 were enlisted. One of the civilians was Dr. Mary Edwards Walker. She was a civilian surgeon for the military during the Civil War and became a POW during that war. The numbers listed do not include MOH recipients from other branches of our Armed Forces.
