Best Answer

No, of course not, it was war. Also these were highly experimental devices and a failed demonstration device might encourage Japan to fight harder.

Why did they drop the atomic bomb?

Not to kill. Lawrence had a suggestion of showing the harm before actually dropping the bomb; but due to the chance of American soldiers being kept prisoner, the suggestion was rejected. We did tell the Japanese Emperor (Tojo) to surrender, but the Japanese command to its military force was to fight to the 'very end'. AMERICA DID NOT WANT TO DROP THE ATOMIC BOMB; EINSTEIN REGRETS MAKING THE FORMULA; AND WE DID HELP OUT AFTERWARDS. If they hadn't dropped the bomb, who knows how long the war would have lasted. We would have invaded by foot and lost more men than we intended.
