Italian families tend to stay together. If they can't be together in physical proximity, then they keep in close contact by calling, visiting, and writing. They also tend to stay in the same line of work. But each generation tries to take that work to a higher level. For example, a family business may start out as a small grocery store. The next generation may add a coffee shop or deli on the premises. The next generation may add a good restaurant. The next generation may get into the accounting, advertising, architecture, and interior design of the ever mushrooming family business.
