the crust is the skin. it is the rigid outer layer. it is thickest under mountains and thinnest under oceans.

the mantle has: lithosphere, mantle, athenosphere. the lithosphere is the top layer of the mantle i think it is solid, the mantle moves sluggishly, the athenosphere comes from the word Greek word athenos meaning weak;bendable.

the core is made of two parts: the outer core and the inner core. the outer core is made up of mostly liquid nickel. the inner core is made of solid iron and nickel. this is the only solid layer in the earth.

There are four types of layers that the Earth has. The crust is broken into plates and is composed of granite and basalt rock. The mantle is the largest layer of the Earth and is hot, dense rock. The outer core contains hot metals and is 1800 miles below the crust and 1400 miles thick. The inner core has metals that are squeezed together because of the great temperatures and pressures. It is about 800 miles thick and 4000 miles below the crust.
