A chromosome is a long packaged DNA sequence. The human diploid (DNA From both mother and father) cell has 46 of these. A chromosome contains thousands of genes which are the sequences in the actual DNA that code for end products such as proteins.

DNA is what is inside chromosomes. genes are the things that determine your phenotype depending on the alleles in a gene. genes are in someone's DNA so genes are actually inside of chromosomes

Genes on the same chromosome are separated from each other by?

Genes on the same chromosomes are separated from each other by crossing over. It is one of the final stages of genetic recombination.

How many genes are found on each of your chromosomes?

Humans have 46 chromosomes (23 pairs), chromosomes are long strands of genes, and since the chromosomes come in pairs, so do the genes. There are 25,000 genes in the entire human genome, and since the haploid chromosome number is 23, there are about 100's of genes on the shorter chromosomes and approximately thousands on the longer chromsomes.

Explain how the expression of genes on sex chromosomes differs from the expression of genes on autosomal chromosomes?

Autosomes are identical to each other whereas sex chromosomes come in two forms, X and y and code for the sex linked characteristics (and some other traits) and are the 24th pair, determine sex.

Propose how crossing-over during meiosis might affect the segregation of genes that are on the same chromosomes?

Segregation is the separating of genes into different cells during meiosis. We have found that there are many more genes that display segregation than there are chromosomes. The explaination is crossing-over - where during prophase I chromosome arms of homologous chromosomes break off and attach to each other. This allows genes on the same chromosome to segregate.

One of the main reasons genes assort independent of one another is that?

Genes on different chromosomes assort independently of each other by dint of the fact that they are on different chromosomes. The closer a gene is to another on the same chromosome the more likely they are to remain together even with crossing over.

How are genes chromosomes and DNA related?

if a cat has 38 chromosomes in each of its body celss, how many chromosomes will be in each daughter cell after mitosis?

Why it is chromosomes not individual genes that assort independently?

For two genes to assort independently, they must reside on different chromosomes or be located far from each other.

How many genes do you have on one set of chromosomes in one of your cells?

Its the other way around. We have 46 chromosomes in each of our cells. The number of genes per chromosome varies between 500 and 4,000, with a total of about 32,000 genes in the 46 chromosomes.

Genes the determiners of heredity are located on the what?

Chromosomes the genes are located on chromosomes in the nucleus of each plant cell.

Is there 30000 genes on each chromosomes?

yes

What is linked genes in a sentence?

The genes present on same chromosomes are sometimes linked to each other that inherit collectively are linked genes and can be separated by crossing over

Do humans have 46 genes?

No. The human cell has 23 chromosome pairs (total 46 chromosomes). Each chromosome has many genes.

What are genes that segregate independently do not influence each other's inheritance?

Genes that segregate independently do not influence each other's inheritance because they are located on different chromosomes. However, the expression of genes that segregate independently can still influence one another.

Why do chromosomes assort independently?

Chromosomes have no direction in how they assort other than that they align in homologous pairs. The individual genes are part of the chromosomes and go wherever the chromosome goes just like the motors of cars go wherever the car goes.
