Senior Air Force officers proposed using 10-to-15-kiloton nuclear bombs against targets in Communist China in 1958, in the event that Beijing blockaded the Taiwan Strait, but President Dwight D. Eisenhower ruled out that option, according to a newly declassified Pentagon document. At a Cabinet meeting in mid-August 1958, as the threat of a Chinese blockade of Taiwan was developing, Air Force Gen. Nathan F. Twining, then chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, explained "that at the outset American planes would drop 10- to 15-kiloton bombs on selected fields in the vicinity of Amoy," a coastal city on the Taiwan Strait now called Xiamen.

the Korean War DID NOT END!they just decided to pause, it might start any day the day it paused, the presidents of both countries made a truce A:stalin and elisenhower created a new alliance B: the united states increased its military spending C: eisenhower hinted he might use nuclear weapons D: the new U.S. president promised he would end the war
That in the atomic age (atomic weapons) only limited wars can be fought. Nuclear weapons would mean total war.
Harry S. TrumanI don't think this is correct, the war ended in a stalemate months after Truman was no longer president. By this time the soviets also had nuclear weapons and they backed North Korea so the use of an atomic weapon would have been reckless to say the least. i think you are confused with the 2nd world war in which atom bombs were used by Truman to punish the Japanese.Editor's Note: President Eisenhower is the correct President for this answer.According to one author of Wikipedia, under the heading of Dwight D. Eisenhower: "As President, Eisenhower threatened to use nuclear weapons, forcing China to agree to a cease-fire of the Korean War. He maintained pressure on the Soviet Union during the Cold War, gave priority to inexpensive nuclear weapons and reduced the other forces to save money."I could not have said it any better than that author so I had to quote him. (I think it was Graham87 but I am uncertain it was him for certain.)
Eisenhower found a way to end the Korean War very soon after he was elected President.
Earthquakes, tidal waves & North Korean nuclear weapons.
The US is strongly opposed to the North Korean nuclear weapons program and has been trying very hard to discourage North Korea from building nuclear weapons, although as we have seen, North Korea is building them anyway, in defiance of all forms of international pressure from the US or the UN.
