Did the West invade Iraq to gain access to oil reserves?

Yes why not? The first answer was wrong. Bush went into Iraq to get oil and he totally lied about Saddam having Weapons of Mass Destruction. He thought that if we (USA) could control Iraq's oil supply, we could control all the oil supply in the middle east and, in the words of Dick Cheney, 'Nobody will ever mess with us anymore!' All we would have to do is 'alter' Iraq's form of government by taking out their long time leader, have them pass laws by us and everything else all in exchange for oil. We did the same thing to Cuba. Now gas is really expensive because we barely have gas. Just because we went into Iraq to get oil doesn't mean that we would necessarily get oil. We failed to get oil because it was obviously harder than we thought to obtain oil.

I'm hoping whoever answered this was joking, otherwise they are speaking out of their @ss. The reason "oil" was such an issue with the Iraq War was because the media made it so. Never was there a statement made that oil was the reason, nor was there ever an attempt to retrieve oil because it wasn't the original intent. I literally lol'd at the statement "We failed to get oil because it was obviously harder than we thought to obtain oil". We (the US) have the premier equipment and technology in obtaining oil. If anyone were to pull oil out of anywhere, it would be us. This leads me to believe this poster was joking because nobody could be that stupid.

Sadaam was a ruthless dictator who continuously slaughtered the Kurds and slaughtered his own people.

The Iraq situation is almost identical to the situation Obama is in with Libya.

Obama/Libya war & Bush/Iraq war similarities:

-Our President wants to rid a ruthless dictator slaughtering their civilians

-Our president sends military and drops air strikes and bombs on the country.

The only difference is that the media is portraying the Libya situation as a means of Obama keeping peace, whereas the same could be said for Bush. Why the difference? Because the media (other than FOX) has loyalty to the democratic party (Anyone who argues that is clearly insane).

Moral of the story: When you hear something the media (including FOX) tells you, do some research because you are 9 times out of 10 hearing a biased story filled with half-truths.

All it takes is for some hobo off the street to say "Bush eats human brains" and any journalist could write an entire article of how Bush eats human brains because "a source" told them so.

There are many who make this accusation, but there is no evidence to support this contention. The United States has not forcibly seized any Iraqi oil wells and, in fact, have allowed the Iraqi national petroleum companies freely offer bids to China, Russia, and France. Please see this article from Time Magazine which further fleshes this out. The US has no control or cheaper oil prices as a result of the Iraq War.
