Yes and No.

The Mandate of Palestine was merely the British Name for the land they occupied in the Southwestern Levantine region of the Middle East. There was no nation of Palestine or independent Governate of Palestine at any point in the prior 2000 years. When the Jewish population of the Mandate of Palestine declared independence, they used the name Israel to denote their country. The Arab residents of the British Mandate preferred to continue using the name Palestine to represent themselves. The majority of the Mandate's land ended up in Israeli hands in 1949, but some parts were under Arab control. It is these Arab areas that will likely form the basis of the Palestinian State.

Is Brazil for Israel or Palestine in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict?

Brazil was the first country in the world to recognize Palestine as an independent state, just last year, after a personal request made by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Therefore, Brazil and Palestine have good relations. Although Israel views such unilateral recognition as something that undermines its interests, the relations with Brazil have not worsened. Brazil is "for" Palestine yet not against Israel.

Did the Holocaust get to Israel?

No. What is now Israel did not exist as an independent country at the time but was part of British Mandate of Palestine and therefore under British rule then. In the course of the fighting in N. Africa in World War 2 the Germans did not reach Cairo and did not cross the Suez Canal. So, there was no Holocaust in Palestine/Israel.

Why is Israeli doing this to Palestine?

I believe that Israel has told Palestine again and again that they will defend themselves whenever they are attacked first. That's what Israel has done.... again and again. Israel is occupying only 10% of the country they were promised by Palestine. They are constantly being forced back and the palestinians have said that they will force them into the sea! Can you blame them for defending themselves? I can't understand why palestine keeps attacking first and the whole world gets upset at Israel because they are defending themselves?

In what year did Israel become a European country?

Israel was established on May 14, 1948. Geographically, Israel is an Asian country as it is located in the Middle East. However, politically and socially, Israel is a European country. Israel's strongest allies, with the exception of the United States, are located in Europe. In addition, the overwhelmingly majority of the population of Israel is derived from European immigrants, causing the culture of Israel to be Europeanized. In addition, Israel was formed out of the British mandate of Palestine after World War II to compensate Jews for the Holocaust. Furthermore, the European Union has expressed its desire to admit Israel in the future. In order to become a member of the EU, the country must be located in Europe or considered Europeanized. For Israel to be seen as a future candidate, it further illustrates the bond between Israel and Europe.

Why did israel become a center of conflict after world war 2?

In May of 1947 Israel gained independence from the British to be able to be a state in its own right. The British had divided the area into sections and one section was Palestine which held the Gaza Strip. This created conflict within Israel and Palestine because of the building by Israel on the Goland Heights along the Gaza Strip since Palestine claimed the area as part of their land. Other nations around Israel also were not happy to have the Jewish state as their neighbor. All of this created conflict and Israel having checkpoints in/out of Palestine as well as missiles going both ways by both groups.
