When my dad's cancer was diagnosed, they played it safe and switched to Winstons. When my mother was breathing oxygen through a tube, she'd take out the tube, turn off the oxygen, and light up. Supposedly up until the late 1950s but can't verify the fact.

If I may: in point of fact, Roy still smoked (Camels at that) when I first met him, and that was March of 1968. He stopped, as I recall, the next year. At least I never saw him smoke after that.
