There has never been anyone to actually say 'yes' or 'no' on whether President Taft got stuck in a bathtub in the White House. The urban legend was given credence however when the President had a new extra wide tub installed at the White House.

No- this oft-told tale is not true. However, it is easy to see how it might have been believed. Taft was indeed a big man and he did have a new, very large, bathtub put into the White House. The workmen who installed the new tub posed in it and their picture was published-- one suspects that the story came from one of them.

No. He did get stuck in the bathtub. He was 6′2" and weighed 330 pounds. The bathtub was replaced (and torn apart in the process), with a larger bathtub.

March 4, 1909 is the date given by some. In actual fact, the story about his getting stuck is almost certainly not true. It gained credence from the fact that Taft was very heavy and ordered a new , extra large bathtub to be installed in the White House.

After some research, I think not- he was a big man, but I think the stuck in a bathtub story is a myth.

There was a larger tub installed in the White House during Taft's presidency. Many believe that he did get stuck in the tub and that 4 men were needed to pull him out.

However, this was likely an embellishment based on the photo of the larger tub with 4 workers from the manufacturer sitting in the tub together. They also had a larger tub temporarily installed on a ship called the Mayflower when Taft was aboard for fear that he wouldn't be able to comfortably use the solid marble bathtub on board. This story was initially denied by Taft but later shown to be true, which means that the denial of the story of Taft getting stuck could be similarly true.

The truth is the press and his rivals at the time used his weight to insult the president, and such a story was an easy sell to the public at the time. Whether or not it every actually happened is debatable.

Did President William Howard Taft die in a bathtub?

No, President William Howard Taft did not die in a bathtub. He died of natural causes in his sleep at his home in Washington D.C. on March 8, 1930. Taft, the 27th President, was the largest President, weighing an official 332 pounds. He did need to have a larger bathtub to be installed in the White House after he moved in. Somebody, possibly the workers who installed the new tub and were amazed at its large size, started a story that he had been stuck in the old tub.
