It was general policy to use Japanese Americans in the European theater in units like the famous 442nd RCT, but there were a large number of Japenese American working as intelligence gatherers and interrogators in the Pacific. These men were usually commissioned officers and were kept away from the front, for fear of losing such a valuble asset due to friendly-fire.

Also there were a small number of Japanese American aviators, where there was no chance of mistake in indentity. For there example one Ben Kuroki participated in 28 bombing missions over mainland Japan and other locations.

Yes the Japanese military had 6 million soldiers for Operation KETSUGO to defend the home islands and the civilian population had organized the Patriotic Citizens Fighting Corps, (which included men aged 15 to 60 and women aged 17 to 40), for an additional 28 million resistance fighters against the planned US invasion Operation DOWNFALL; first phase OLYMPIC/ MAJESTIC on 01 Nov 1945.

Weapons and training were lacking as some men were armed with muzzle loading muskets, longbows, or bamboo spears and women with sickles, kitchen knives and pepper to throw into US soldiers faces.

Unlike the mythical National Redoubt of Nazi Germany and the 500 S.S. "Werewolves" resistance, and the poorly organized "Volkstrum" militias of boys and old men, the Japanese had an underground bunker 100 miles N. of Tokyo called Matsushiro.

The military and civilian reflection of the Emperor's will to fight to the death in Kamikaze and Banzai attacks would have been devastating for both sides.
