Catholic / Orthodox / Catholic Anglican answer: no.

Protestant answer: yes.

Qualifier: 1 Corinthians 7:2-5 (New International Version, ©2011)

"But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband. The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife. Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control."

The consummation of marriage is the two partners becoming "one flesh", and if a couple do not mate then they are not married. God told Joseph to marry Mary. There are also numerous references in The Bible to Jesus' siblings.

Yes she did. There was a James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas (not the one who betrayed Him).

Roman Catholic Answer

The Blessed Virgin Mary was a virgin her entire life. She had no other children. The word that is translated "brothers and sisters" in the Greek (in the Bible) is an Aramaic word which includes cousins, uncles, aunts, nephews, etc.: any close relative.

According to the way Protestant read the Scriptures, Mary had other children. Roman Catholics disagree with this, I believe. Matt 12:46-47 says

46 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. 47 Someone told him, "Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you."

Catholics believe in the perpetual virginal state of Mary (ie she was a virgin all her life) but scripture shows this to be erroneous. We are told that Joseph did not consummate the marriage between he and Mary 'until Jesus was born', where the Greek strongly implies that Mary and Joseph resumed normal marital relations afterwards.

Catholics insist that Jesus' siblings were his 'cousins' but again the original Greek and the context of the passages where his siblings are mentioned point directly towards brothers and sisters and not cousins.

Such passages are at Matthew 12:46, Luke 8:19, Mark 3:31, Matthew 13:55-56, John 7:1-10, Acts 1:14 and Galatians 1:19.

We are told in these passages that Jesus had at least 4 brothers (James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas [NOT Judas Iscariot!]) and also sisters, although these are not numbered or named

Some Roman Catholics claim that these "brothers" were actually Jesus' cousins. However, in each instance, the specific Greek word for "brother" is used. Whilst it is possible that the word can refer to other relatives, its normal and literal meaning is a physical brother. There was already a Greek word for "cousin," and it was not used. Also, if they were Jesus' cousins, why would they so often be described as being with Mary, Jesus' mother and not their own? A second Roman Catholic argument is that Jesus' brothers and sisters were the children of Joseph from a previous marriage. An entire theory of Joseph's being much older than Mary, having been previously married, having multiple children, and then being widowed before marrying Mary is invented without any biblical basis whatsoever, to maintain the perpetual virgin doctrine. The Bible does not even hint that Joseph was married or had children before he married Mary. If Joseph had at least six children before he married Mary, why are they not mentioned in Joseph and Mary's trip to Bethlehe, or their trip to Egypt, or their trip back to Nazareth?

Sure she did. Obviously she was a virgin before giving birth to Jesus because that is what the bible says. The bible also says that Jesus had brothers Mt12:48, Mk3:32.

Is there any historical evidence for this? They have found an ossuary of James, son of Joseph, brother of Jesus. There is huge controversy over this issue.

Did Alphaeus Marry Jesus' mother Mary after the death of Joseph?

No. Mary did not marry after the death of Joseph. On the cross, Jesus gave John the care of his mother, Mary. John Chapter 19 versus 25-27 Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary of Magdala. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold, your son."Then he said to the disciple, "Behold, your mother." And from that hour the disciple took her into his home. (NAB) Mary had no husband or children other than Jesus. Jesus respected Jewish law and would not have broken the law regarding the care of his mother. A husband or other child would have had the responsibility to care for Mary.

When Jesus died who was given to Mary as a son?

When Jesus was on the cross and just before he died, he told the Apostle John that he was now her son and she was his mother. Jesus was telling John to take care of his mother. Mary also had other children but Jesus made a point of telling John to care for her.

Why was Jesus's brothers and sisters considered half brothers and sisters?

Example: Let's say my mother gave birth to me and then something happened to my father and then later my mother married another man and had 3 more children. We would all have the same mother but different father's so we would be half brothers and sisters. Jesus' mother was Mary and Jesus' father was God (by the Holy Spirit). then Mary and Joseph were married and had children. Jesus and his brothers and sisters all had Mary as their mother, but Jesus' father was God and the other children's father was Joseph, making them Half brothers and sisters.
