A netbook is basically a tablet PC with a keyboard. Most netbooks have a 10" display, no CD or DVD drive, a low-end single core CPU, 1 Gb of RAM, and a fairly small hard drive by today's standards.

Modern laptops or notebooks basically have the same components and abilities as a desktop PC

While a netbook does have alot of the same capabilities as a regular laptop, they are usually alot slower. Netbooks are normally used for accessing the internet (hence the name) and word processing. Where as the right laptop can do virtually anything the user requires.
